Pirita
5 km to the northwest of the Tallinn city centre, there is Pirita, which has got its name after the Virgin Mary convent of the Brigitta Order. Since the beginning of the 20th century, Pirita that lies on the seashore became a place for outings and swimming. Even today Pirita with its beach, stretch of coast, park like pine forests and picturesque Pirita river primeval valley, is one of the most preferred areas for leisure activities. The area offers varied possibilities for active holiday. On both banks of the Pirita river there is the territory of the Tallinn Botanical Gardens. Nearby, is the Forest Cemetery and the Tallinn TV-Tower; from the observation deck at 170 metres opens a view of the whole city and its vicinity.
